Abstract

572,704. Machine guns. BOULTON PAUL AIRCRAFT, Ltd., and NORTH, J. D. May 29,1941, No. 6887. [Class 92 (ii)] A gas baffle or recoil checking device 4 is applied to the barrel casing 2 of the gun casing 1 of a recoil-operated machine gun, which gun casing is arranged to slide axially with cushioned movement provided by means such as springs 6, 7. The arrangement, which is stated to increase the rate of fire, is such that on firing, a forward impulse is given to the gun casing so that it is still moving forward when the breech block strikes the rear buffer. The baffle device is preferably of the known kind comprising a series of spaced annular discs bolted together in an outer casing to provide outwardly and rearwardly directed gas escape passages.
