630,085. Gas-operated firearms. ZBROJOVKA BRNO, NARODNI PODNIK. Oct. 30, 1946, No. 32290. Convention date, June 24, 1944. Addition to 611,563. [Class 92 (ii)] The invention of the parent Specification is now modified by providing means for retaining the spring-loaded part of the buffer for the breech-block carrier in the compressed position until the next round is fired. In the construction shown the gas cylinder 3 constitutes the buffer, being urged rearwards by a spring 4 and having its front end frictionally engaging a split-ring 10 whose conical inner surface cooperates with a conical surface on the gasblock 2. When the breech-block carrier 20 strikes the cylinder 3 the latter moves forwards taking ring 10 with it until the ring meets the block 2 as shown, the ring then being held and the cylinder continuing its motion, compressing spring 4. Spring 4 then reverses the motion and ring 10 is frictionally carried rearwards by the cylinder until it is opened out by the conical surface on the block 2 when it is arrested and by friction holds the cylinder until the next shot is fired. The firing of a shot enables the gas pressure to force the ring forwards to release its grip on the cylinder. In modifications the conical surfaces are dispensed with and the split ring is adapted to enter grooves at certain points during the relative movements of the cylinder and gas-block, gas being admitted to the base of the grooves when a shot is fired to effect release.
