Abstract

483,531. Machine guns. SOC. ITALIANA E. BREDA PER COSTRUZIONI MECCANICHE. May 6, 1937, No. 12988. Convention date, May 27, 1936. [Class 92 (ii)] An automatic gun comprises a recoiling barrel 6, a breech-block 1, slidably mounted on a longitudinally reciprocating carrier 1<1> and actuated by a gas piston 4, and a fixed casing 10 having an opening 8 through which the cartridges are fed into a position ready to be engaged by mechanism which transfers them to the barrel chamber. The breech-block shown is controlled by a spring 2 and is adapted to be held in the retracted position by a sear 3. The gas cylinder 7 is fixed to the barrel and is surrounded by a spring 9, which bears against that part of the casing 10 in which the cylinder moves and constitutes the return spring for the barrel. The gun may be fitted with a pneumatic or hydraulic buffer comprising a cylinder 12 connected to the barrel and a piston 11 connected to the fixed casing. The cylinder has an internal lining 13 which is suitably slotted to enable air or liquid to escape from one end of the cylinder to the other.
