Abstract
945,246. Small arms. R. M. P. MARLAS. July 4, 1960 [July 3, 1959], No. 23307/60. Heading F3C. Relates to semi-automatic rifles and to the arrangement of an extractor for ensuring satisfactory extraction of a fired cartridge. According to the invention the extractor 17, Fig. 2, is pivoted at 18 in a groove 16 in the breech bolt 10, 11 and is extended at the rear by a tail 22 ending in a ramp 23. The extractor claw 17a is urged away from the cartridge 14 by a spring 24 but, on firing, a percussion member 33 is released by the trigger and is spring-urged to slide over a hollow tail piece 12 of the breech bolt to actuate the firing pin 27 and at the same time the member 33 engages the extractor tail 22 as shown in Fig. 3 to move it outwardly, so locking the extractor claw 17a on the cartridge rim. The extractor 17, which also form a cocking piece, recoils with the breech bolt to uncover an opening in the breech casing through which the cartridge case is ejected by the firing pin 27, and the extractor slides in a groove 8 in the breech casing to prevent rotation of the cylindrical bolt. The firing pin 27 slides in a groove 26 in the breech bolt and is urged rearwardly by a spring 30 but on recoil is held by a catch 52a to project forwardly of the breech bolt and so reject the cartridge. A buffer 43 of fibre washers is provided and a removable end cap 5 is secured by a bayonet point to the breech casing and can be locked by a safety device.
