Abstract

446,570. Small arms; grenades. BLACKER, L. V. S., Eartham Cottage, Eartham, Chichester, Sussex. Aug. 1, 1934, No. 22479. [Classes 9 (i) and 119] A grenade thrower 1, Fig. 1, is provided with means such as a sliding clamp 8 for securing a pistol or revolver R thereto and with a firing device such as a firing-pin 17 adapted to be operated by the hammer of the revolver. The thrower 1 is in the form of a tube enclosing the firing-pin 17 and fitted at the muzzle end with a strengthening socket 22 for receiving the grenade. The firing-pin is connected to a lever 15 extending in the path of the hammer. For safety, the pivot of the lever 15 may be raised to remove the lever out of the way of the hammer, or a catch 21 may be brought under the bent upper end of the lever to prevent its operation. The sliding clamp 8 fits over the barrel of the revolver and is attached by rods 12 to a sleeve 11, which surrounds the revolver barrel and acts as a hand guard. The clamp engages under side shoulders on the revolver barrel or under the trigger guard. The stock is formed by two flat plates 2, Figs. 1 and 4, attached to metal brackets 3 hinged at 4 on the rear end of the tube 1, this enabling the plates 2 to be opened out when the stock is to bear on the ground. The grenade is an ordinary hand grenade 23, Fig. 5, the base plug of which is replaced by a tail piece comprising a tube 29, a fairing 24, fins 30, and a propellent cartridge 25. The socket 22 may be detachable or provided with a lateral opening closed by a breech block device. Specification 412,580 is referred to.
