Abstract

Walls. -The piers of slab buildings are formed of concrete blocks of angle, T, or cruciform section with unequal limbs so that, when reversed in adjacent courses as shown in Fig. 1, a staggered or bonded connexion with the slabs is produced. The blocks are also provided with projections such as f to space the slabs as shown in Fig. 4, and the blocks are preferably hollow or with one or more vertical apertures, the interior of the piers being filled with concrete, with or without reinforcements. The joists and wall plates are carried by reinforced concrete beams h, Fig. 5, cast in situ on laths 1 supported by U-shaped ties j, or on slaces. Holes may be formed in the beams so that the wall may be ventilated throughout. The slabs are preferably made of the composition described in Specification 105,054, [Class 22, Cements &c.].
