Abstract
1,177,043. Quenching device. RÍCHLING'SCHE EISEN-U.STAHLWERKE G.m.b.H. June 5, 1968 [June 21, 1967], No.26805/68. Heading C7N. A cooling tube for cooling elongated material, such as hot wire, passing axially through the tube, comprises coaxial inner and outer walls 3 and 1, an inlet 2 for passing a cooling medium under pressure into the space between the walls and nozzles 8 sealed in the inner wall and pointing in the direction of passage of the material. The nozzles are spaced in the tube both longitudinally and angularly with respect to the axis, and each projects through an orifice 5 in the wider end of one of a series of coaxial funnels 4 fixed inside the inner wall. Preferably the nozzles are angularly spaced at intervals of 60 degrees to 120 degrees about the tube axis and the axis of each nozzle may be in an axial plane or at an angle of not more than 20 degrees thereto. Each nozzle is forwardly directed at an angle which is preferably 60 degrees.
