Abstract

117,436. Amstel, A. F. van. May 28, 1918. Cylinders receiving liquid fuel.-Water and fuel are sprayed into a chamber 4 whence, after vaporization and partial combustion of the fuel, the residuum is expelled through orifices 6 into the main combustion chamber. The object of the steam is to expel the fuel from the chamber 4 and to start its combustion. The fuel issues from the orifices 6 in a direction nearly parallel to the face of the piston 3. The fuel and water ports 31, 32 may be valveless as shown; each may have a beat valve or both may be controlled by a single beat valve, Light fuel may be admitted through the fuel duct at starting.
