Abstract

Compartments and bunkers.-In a ship of the type having a double bottom, two or more longitudinal watertight bulkheads, and a series of transverse bulkheads, two of the longitudinal bulkheads B are unpierced and terminate on unpierced transverse bulkheads near the stem and stern, respectively, and two auxiliary longitudinal bulkheads G extend only the length of the stokehold and are provided with coaling openings closed by watertight doors. All the longitudinal bulkheads extend from the inner bottom up to the upper main deck. The engines and boilers are arranged in the centre of the ship, the coal bunkers between the longitudinal bulkheads B and G with coal shoots C, D, and the cabins and saloons r, r<1> and cargo spaces d in the sides of the ship.
