Two water - tight decks extend right across the ship, one being above and the other below the waterline. The lower deck is curved or carried down to the sides of the vessel to meet the lower deck stringer. In addition, longitudinal water-tight bulkheads BH are fitted, as shown, partial bulkheads D being worked between the watertight decks. The spaces at the sides may be utilized as coal bunkers. The construction may be applied to battle-ships and cruisers, and to mail and passenger vessels.
