Abstract

27,814. Hogg, A., and Carr, T. J. Dec. 11. Hulls; frames and framing; plating. - The plating of ships' skins, bulkheads, and decks is corrugated and combined with widely-spaced strong transverse frames. The transverse web frames b are made to fit closely to the corrugated plating a and the deck beams h may be closely spaced or spaced the same as the frames. Towards the ends of the vessel the corrugations merge into the normal surface of a ship's hull. The tank-tops t may also be corrugated as shown. Stringers are fitted continuously or intercostally. Longitudinal girders are fitted under the decks, which may be corrugated both transversely and longitudinally. The bottom of the vessel is uncorrugated and the floors are spaced at about half the spacing of the frames. The bulkheads are stiffened with web-stiffeners.
