Abstract

6679. Krupp Akt. - Ges., Germaniawerft, F. April 28, 1905, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Ships' compartments, hulls, and tanks; ballasting ships; colliers; grain-carrying vessels. - The hull of the vessel is made with a double shell A, B, which extends right up to the main deck C, and with a continuous seaworthy superstructure e', E, the side walls e' of which are inclined to the horizontal to correspond approximately to the gradient of the cargo, for the purpose of obtaining for the ship as small a net measurement as possible owing to the ballast spaces being arranged between the two'shells. By this construction the ship also has a large carrying capacity. The walls of the hold are free from stiffeners and projections, which, with the arrangement of the hatchways F and the sloping sides e', renders the vessel self-trimming.
