The bridge deck J forms the tank tops, and the inner sides K are curved to allow of the cargo in the hold being readily trimmed. The tanks may contain water ballast, or they may be used for the accommodation of the crew and passengers, or as bunkers for stores and cargo. Access to these compartments may be gained by suitable water-tight companions or hatches.
