Abstract

1087. Petersen, W. Jan. 19. Hulls; framing.-The sides of vessels at or near the load line are curved, recessed, or bulged outward, and above the curved portion the gunwale of the boat is rounded inward. A superstructure F, J, K is erected from the deck, the supporting- frames of which are semicircular in form and stiffened by web-plates. A longitudinal girder J is placed between the lower plating of the superstructure and the upper deck K. A number of forms of superstructure are described in the Specification. The sides of the vessel are not necessarily made up of curved plates, but they may have recesses straight in cross-section, stiffened by horizontal stringers or Z-irons. The invention is described with reference to grain-carrying vessels, launches and yachts, and is also stated to be generally applicable. The recesses may also be of any number. In yachts and launches already built, pneumatically inflatable projections may be applied to the vessel's sides.
