Planking.-Ships and other floating vessels of approximately oval, elliptical, or circular crosssection are planked longitudinally and the planks are provided at intervals with recesses on the outside to receive metal bands b arranged to be tightened by bolts c to hold the planks together. Hatchways are formed of planks g held together and to the main structure by bolts p, and are strengthened by struts k, as shown.
