Abstract
159,315. Kawamura, T. Nov. 24, 1919. Framing.-Consists of improvements in ship construction of the kind in which the hull is formed of alternatelyarranged plain and flanged outer plates and transverselyarranged strong frames, the flanged outer plates being connected to longitudinally arranged stiffeners secured to the strong frames, and spaced angles being secured to the. fore-and-aft angles and to the flanged outer plates. The hull 10 is built up of longitudinallyarranged strakes of plating 11, 12, the latter of which have their edges flanged. Strong transverse frames 15 are formed of I-beams and the plating 11, 12 is riveted to them. The plating is stiffened by longitudinal angles 17, and similar angles connect the inner webs of the transverse frames 15. These angles 17 are tied at intervals throughout the length of the ship by angles 22 as shown. A similar construction is stated to be specially applicable to fabricated ships, and when so applied the hull is generally of the form shown in Figs. 8 and 9 in which the waterlines are of straight lines.
