Abstract

1,136,725. Frangible diaphragm closures. GRAVINER (COLNBROOK) Ltd. 6 May, 1966 [14 May, 1965], No. 20375/65. Heading A5A. In a fire extinguisher of the dry powder and pressurised gas type the thin copper diaphragm 12 sealing discharge outlet 14 is maintained in contact with head 13a of operating plunger 13 by the internal pressure and is punctured by a sharp blow at the base of 13. Plunger 13, formed with vertical bore 13b communicating with nozzle 14 and terminating with horizontal bores 13c, carries resilient circlip 17 to resist depression of 13 under the internal pressure and, on use, to retain 13 with bores 13c inside end cap 16. Escape of gas before use is detected by upward movement of 13 when thumb pressure is applied thereto.
