Abstract

1291367 Pumping liquid for spraying AFA CORP OF FLORIDA 27 Feb 1970 [3 March 1969] 9553/70 Heading F1A. In a liquid spraying device wherein a spring 26 acts on a piston 16 to force liquid from a cylinder chamber 34 to an outlet nozzle 83, a longitudinally extending groove 64 is provided at the upper end of the cylinder bore 66 so that before the piston completes its upper stroke a piston seal 74 passes the groove and thus allows the contents of the chamber 34 to be relieved. This relieving ensures the device is not operated with an insufficient pressure in the chamber 34. The groove is shaped such that the seal 74 can expand to close it after relieving has occurred, thereby to prevent the ingress of air to the chamber 34.
