Abstract

1439710 Gas storage containers NIPPON PISTON RING CO Ltd 29 Jan 1974 [3 Feb 1973] 04213/74 Heading F4P A portable gas injector includes a casing 1 housing a gas container holding gas under pressure. An injection head 4 has screw engagement with the casing and at its outer end has injection mouth 20 and at its inner end a needle 12 which punches a hole in seal 6 when the head and the casing are screwed together. The injection head includes a primary gas expansion chamber 7 with which bore 23 of the needle communicates, a secondary expansion chamber 8 communicating with the primary chamber and a valve arrangement 10 controlling flow of gas from the secondary chamber to the injection mouth. The primary chamber includes a surface so arranged opposite the bore 23 of the needle that gas issuing from the needle impinges on the surface and is reduced in velocity so that the gas expands into the primary chamber before passing to the secondary chamber. This secondary chamber 8 is defined by a casing 15 having a cup-shaped portion which projects into the primary chamber 7 to define the impingement surface at the base of the cup.
