Abstract

[Also in Division B8] A control valve for a beer dispensing and measuring apparatus has an operative connection between the valve actuating handle 19 and the valve closure member 12 which is automatically disengaged by the pressure of the beer as soon as the valve is opened. The valve closure comprises a rotary disc 12 provided with an orifice 24 constantly in communication with a source of beer under pressure, and a further pair of orifices interconnected by a duct 54. Surrounding the disc is a housing connected at 15 to an outlet spout 29 and at 20, 21 to opposite ends of a measuring cylinder (not shown) provided with a free piston. Rotation of the disc from the position shown by handle 19 attached to member 17 simultaneously connects a selected end of the measuring cylinder to the inlet orifice 24 and the other end to outlet spout 29 via duct 54 and the associated orifices. When the disc has been moved to either of its " open " positions the pressure of the beer in chamber 70 (Fig. 5) lifts piston 63, so disengaging key 68 on the piston from slot 69 in disc 12. Pin-and-slot connection 64, 60 accommodates this movement and a spring (not shown) in member 17 effects re-engagement of the key and slot when the operative end of the measuring cylinder has been exhausted.
