Abstract

[Also in Division B8] A control valve for a beer dispensing and measuring apparatus has an operative connection between the valve actuating handle 35 and the valve closure member 26 which is automatically disengaged by the pressure of the beer as soon as the valve is opened. The valve closure comprises a rotary disc 26 provided with an orifice 29 in constant communication with a source of beer under pressure, and a further pair of orifices interconnected by a duct 31. Surrounding the disc is a housing connected at 23 to an outlet spout 24 and at 17 and 18 to opposite ends of measuring cylinder (not shown) provided with a free piston. Rotation of the disc 26 from the closed position shown, by handle 35 attached to member 34, simultaneously connects a selected end of the measuring cylinder to the inlet orifice 29 and the other end to outlet spout 24 via duct 31 and the associated orifices. When the disc has been moved to either of its two open positions the pressure of the beer in chamber 44 lifts piston 40, so disengaging key 43 on the piston from slot 45 in the disc 26. Pin-and-slot connection 41, 42 accommodates this movement, and a spring in member 34 effects re-engagement of the key and slot when the operative end of the measuring cylinder has been exhausted.
