Abstract
1297600 Reserve valves DANFOSS A/S 19 April 1971 [16 April 1970] 26444/71 Heading A5T [Also in Division F2] A reserve switch for diving equipment in the flow path of gas from a pressurised gas container is automatically closed when the pressure of the gas falls below a first predetermined value and is subsequently openable by means of a manually actuable device, the reserve switch including a locking device responsive to the pressure in the container, the locking device permitting opening of the switch by manual actuation only when the pressure in the container falls below a second predetermined value, the second being not less than the first. The reserve switch 9 includes a valve, the closure member 30 of which is constituted by an O-ring which cooperates with a sealing face 31. The actuating member 25 of the valve is controlled by a diaphragm 23 and is provided with a spindle 32, which carries at its free end a rotatory knob 33 and a pin 34. By rotating the knob 33 the pin 34 can be displaced on an inclined cam surface 35 of a cam element 36 to open the valve. The valve is locked in its fully open position when the pin 34 engages in a locking groove 37. An attachment 24 is provided with a fixed stop 41, and the knob 33 with a movable stop 42, Fig. 3, the two stops which comprise the locking device abutting one another when the valve is in the normal open position. Rotation of the knob 33, and therefore manual opening of the valve is only possible when the entry pressure in the chamber 18 has fallen to such an extent that the actuating member and diaphragm cause the spindle 32, and thus the stop 42, to be axially displaced sufficiently to avoid abutment of the stops 41 and 42. Increase of the gas pressure above a predetermined locking pressure automatically returns the stops to their locked position. The actuating member 25 also controls a reducing valve 8. The diaphragm 23, in use, is biassed on one side by the pressure of the gas and on the other side by the pressure of the surrounding water, communicating through an orifice 29, and a spring 27. The unit 1 shown also includes a union 2 for connection with a pressure gas container, an outlet port 4, a cut-off valve 7, a non-return valve 10, and a pressure relief valve 46.
