Abstract
1,129,147. Multi-cylinder engines; valve gear. HEDEMORA VERKST€DER AB. Oct. 19, 1965 [Oct. 21, 1964], No.44147/65. Headings F1B and F1Q. An engine construction permitting engines to be coupled together comprises an engine unit M6 terminating in flat end faces 17, the crankshaft and camshafts having compling flanges 22, 24 at each end adapted to be coupled to a similar engine unit or to a transmission unit A comprising a casing with end faces 26 adapted to engage the faces 17 and crankcase and camshaft extensions 32, 41, adapted to be coupled to the coupling flanges 27, 24. The engine shown is a 6 cylinder V-engine and the end plate 45 is adapted to be removed for coupling to another engine or transmission unit. The two camshafts 15 are driven tnrough spear gears 37ÀÀÀ39 from a gear 32 on the camshaft extension 33. Various arrangements of engine and transmission units are shown and in Figs 11 and 12 (not shown) a transmission unit D permits two parallel rows of engine units to drive a common output shaft 56. An electric generator may also be attached directly to the end of an engine or transmission unit.
