Abstract

1,127,587. Securing collars on shaffs. STANDARD PRESSED STEEL CO. 9 June, 1967 [10 June, 1966], No. 26624/67. Heading F2U. A collar 10 secured to a shaft 12 by a cupped or coned tip set-screw 14 has an undercut slot 16 formed in its radially-inner wall aligned with the set-screw 14 such that on disassembly any burrs 12a or deformation on the shaft formed by the set-screw biting into it pass through the slot 16 enabling free axial manual release of the collar 10. The undercut 16 is formed as a radius R2 centred on the set-screw hole axis and extends between the end faces 17, 18 of the collar and has a width greater than the diameter of the set-screw hole but does not extend over the circumference of the collar wall for more than 90 degrees on either side of the screw-hole axis, and has a depth of 0À3P to 1P, where P is the pitch of the set-screw thread.
