Abstract

1294067 Anchor bolt; screw sockets A MARTIN 19 April 1971 [2 March 1970 28 Jan 1971] 22627/71 Heading F2H An anchor nut or bolt comprises a sleeve 12 frangibly connected at 14, a nut 10 (Fig. 1) or a bolt 81 (Fig. 8) having a head 10<SP>1</SP>, the nut 10 or head 10<SP>1</SP> having a tapered portion whose outer diameter increases in a direction away from the sleeve and whose outer diameter at its end 24 adjacent the sleeve is substantially equal to the sleeve inner diameter, at least one of the sleeve and the nut or head being screw-threaded so that when the nut 10 or head 10<SP>1</SP> is turned relative to the sleeve 12, it is screwed into the sleeve to expand the latter, the nut or head being retained in the sleeve. As shown, the tapered portion of the nut or bolt head is externally screw-threaded at 28, the sleeve having an internal screw-thread 16 of the same pitch, these threads being of opposite hand to the internal thread 36 of the nut or the bolt thread. The end portion 32 of the nut 10 or bolt head 10<SP>1</SP> is substantially cylindrical and has a thread 34 of different pitch from the thread 28 so that when the nut or bolt head has been screwed fully into the sleeve 12 the threads 16, 34 jam to provide a lock against subsequent rotation. The nut may be closed at the end 32 (Fig. 5, not shown). The nut 10 or bolt head 10<SP>1</SP> is screwed into the sleeve by a bit (40) (Figs. 2, 3, 9, not shown) of a tool having an anvil (41) which engages the head 18 of the sleeve to prevent rotation of the latter.
