Abstract

1431406 Screw sockets A FISCHER 13 June 1974 [15 June 1973] 26267/74 Heading F2H A fastening element 1 for anchoring in a bore 9 in masonry 10 comprises an expansible sleeve 2 into which an expander nut 3 can be drawn by rotating a bolt 4, the sleeve 2 being biased towards the expander nut 3 by a helical compression spring 6 or a set of cup springs. The bolt 4 has a shank portion 5 of diameter equal to the unexpanded external diameter of the sleeve 2 to form a shoulder 4a against which the spring 6 reacts. Alternatively a constant diameter bolt shank may carry a spacer sleeve to form the shoulder 4a. A plastics cap 7 between the spring 6 and the sleeve 2 has a flange 8 surrounding the outside of the spring, and an external diameter slightly greater than that of the sleeve 2, so that it wedges against the bore 9 wall to prevent rotation of the sleeve 2 as the bolt 4 is rotated. The sleeve may be as shown, with longitudinal slits, or a close-coiled helical spring of soft metal. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown), an expander sleeve (11) is provided at the rear end of the sleeve, adjacent the spring 6.
