Abstract

1364234 Anchor bolts RAWLPLUG CO Ltd 18 Aug 1971 [27 May 1970] 25399/70 Heading F2H An anchor bolt assembly comprises a bolt with a tapered head 1 and a shank 2 at least a portion 3 of which is screw-threaded to receive a nut, and an expansible sheet-metal sleeve 4 around a reduced portion of the bolt shank, the maximum diameter of the bolt head and the external diameter along most of the sleeve do not exceed the maximum diameter of the bolt shank so that the bolt head and sleeve can be pressed through a bolt hole in an article to be secured by the bolt assembly, and radially outwardly projecting lugs or ears 7 or 17 on the sleeve can be forced through the bolt hole and bind on the walls of a prepared hole, e.g. in masonry or concrete. The sleeve may have external ribs or pimples to resist turning in the hole. In Fig. 3, tongues 7 on the sleeve engage recesses in the bolt shank to prevent relative rotation between the bolt and the sleeve. In Fig. 4, lugs 17 bent out from the edges of the sleeve material bind against the wall of the prepared hole causing the sleeve to clamp the shank to resist relative rotation. In addition, the frusto-conical portion 6 of the head, which has a cone angle of about 10 degrees, may be knurled or may have a tongue to engage in the full-length longitudinal slot 8 of the sleeve. The outer end of the bolt head is tapered or chamfered, and the sleeve may be internally chamfered (at 9, Fig. 1, not shown) where it engages the start of the taper 6 of the head.
