Abstract

1418881 Anchor bolts; sockets RAW-PLUG CO Ltd 7 March 1973 [3 Jan 1972] 92/72 Heading F2H In an anchoring device comprising an expandible substantially cylindrical shield 1 of sheet material and containing a coaxial expansible substantially cylindrical sleeve 2 also of sheet material, and a tapered expansion member, formed as a nut 16 or the head of a bolt (16a) as in Fig. 4 (not shown), adapted to be drawn into one end of the sleeve so as to expand the sleeve and the shield, the sleeve is prevented from being axially displaced in the shield on expansion by means of a plurality, e.g. four, circumferentially spaced shoulders 8 defined by axially-extending channels 9 impressed in the shield. The expansion member 16, (16a) preferably has a frusto-conical surface whose largest diameter does not exceed the outside diameter of the shield, the sleeve terminating short of the end of the shield so that the frusto-conical surface engages and expands the shield and the sleeve simultaneously. The member 16 may also have ears 17 which engage in overlying slots (11), (14), (3), 7 in the sleeve and the shield to prevent relative rotation therebetween. Rotation between the sleeve and the shield is further prevented by the engagement of a lug 12 on the sleeve with the slot 7 in the shield. Pimples 22 pressed in the shield resist rotation of the shield when the anchor is expanded in a preformed bore. The shield and the sleeve are prefereably made from blanks of sheet metal, polycarbonate sheet or other sheet material that can be suitably pressed and stamped.
