Abstract

1,149,226. Bolting. G. I. WILLIAMS. 3 April, 1967 [4 April, 1966], No. 15235/67. Heading F2H. A rock anchor device comprises a bolt 10 having screw-threading on its end 16 with a cone-shaped nut 15 thereon, and a shell 17 surrounding the nut 15, the shell being expanded radially as the nut moves to the left in Fig. 2 along the screw-threading, relative axial movement of the nut 15 and shell 17 being limited by a shoulder 21 provided on the inside surface of the shell, so that the nut cannot be pulled completely through the shell. The bolt 10 is provided with a flattened portion 20, and this holds a thrust ring 18 in place, the ring 18 preventing axial movement of the shell 17. The shell is provided with a longitudinal peripheral slit (not shown) for engagement with a ridge 23 on the nut 15 to prevent relative rotation of the nut and shell. In alternative constructions the shoulder limiting axial movement of the nut 15 and shell 17 may be provided on the nut 15 to engage the right-hand end of the shell 17, either integral therewith or formed as a separate annular member screwed thereon. Also a projection on the nut may be arranged to split the shell 17, when the projection abuts the end of a slot formed on the inside surface of shell.
