Abstract

1,158,907. Blind hole anchor nut fastener. AVDEL Ltd. 17 Nov., 1966 [30 Nov., 1965; 13 May, 1966], Nos. 50674/65 and 21428/66. Heading F2H. Blind hole anchor nut fastener comprising a tubular body portion 12 formed with a flange 20 and coaxial with an internally threaded tubular nut portion 11 which is tapered externally at 14 and formed with circumferential grooves 15, 16, 17 and is forceable into the tubular body portion 12 to expand the wall thereof outwardly so that the material of the body portion engages in the grooves of the nut portion to resist separation of the two portions. Grooves 51 bounded by burrs are provided to resist relative rotation of the two portions. The nut portion can be integrally formed with the body portion and be shearable therefrom, or the two portions can be formed as separate parts swaged together to form a single unit, in which case the nut portion can be of harder material than the body portion. The body portion 12 can be provided with external circumferential ribs or grooves (not shown). The flange 20 is provided with serrations 21 and may be internally countersunk. The threads of the nut portion are distorted in order to resist unscrewing of a bolt when the fastener is installed.
