Abstract

1389072 Screw sockets; bolts K B ZIFFERER 20 March 1972 [4 Aug 1971] 12895/72 Heading F2H An anchor bolt assembly comprises a bolt 12 having a shank 16 with a tapered and threaded portion 20 at one end and tool and/or work engaging means at the other end, and a cylindrical expansion sleeve 14 having an outside diameter substantially equal to that of the main shank 16 and an internal portion 24 tapered and threaded to receive the tapered and threaded portion 20 of the shank in screw-threaded engagement. The sleeve 14 has external knurling or ribs 26 and has one full length slit 28 and a diametrically opposite part length slot (Fig. 9). It may be of steel, bronze, aluminium, zinc alloy, nylon, or other plastics. The taper is frusto-conical and has an angle between 2 and 12 degrees, preferably 6 degrees. The bolt 12 is of steel, bronze, or aluminium, and may have a hexagon head, Fig. 1, or a flattened eyed head (Fig. 16, not shown). In Fig. 9, the bolt 50 has a threaded portion 60 at its non-tapered end, a cap or closed nut 56 being screwed on to the end 60 to enable the assembly to be driven into a bore and rotated to expand the sleeve. In Fig. 13, a similar bolt 80 has a hexagonal boss 88 at its non-tapered end to serve the same purpose as the temporary cap 56. The sleeve may be somewhat elliptical in plan.
