Abstract

1453435 Expander device HARRIS & EDGAR Ltd 28 Jan 1974 [27 Oct 1972] 49718/72 Heading F2H An expander device for retention in a blind hole in a structure comprises a holding member 1 and expansion means having gripping means 3, the holding member being rotatable to actuate the expanding means, comprising a part 5 whose underside bears against the surface of the structure, and having an internally screw-threaded bore 6. Gripping means 3 may comprise a sleeve having one slit (8) running its full length and other slits (9) running part of its length. The sleeve is expanded in Fig. 1 by means of a coned nut 2 and a conical part 7 of the holding member. In Fig. 3, the sleeve is expanded at one end by nut 2<SP>1</SP> and bears at its other end on a copper or rubber ring 11 abutting a shoulder on the holding member. During tightening, the ring 11 collapses to allow the head 5 of member 1 to be drawn against the structure. The expander device may be of phosphor bronze, stainless steel, mild steel or nylon. The expanding means may be of the type described in Specifications 1,435,298 and 1,409,662.
