1414562 Expansion bolts WEJ-IT EXPANSION PRODUCTS Inc 17 March 1973 12957/73 Heading F2H An expansion bolt 10 comprises a shank 12 having a recess 14 with a bottom surface 17 extending between a shoulder 15 and a divergent surface 18, and an expansible one-piece collar 24 comprising two part-cylindrical wedge members 26 whose side edges are joined by a single strip 30 to prevent relative longitudinal movement between the members. As shown, the strip 30 joins notches 33 defined in side edges 29 of the members 26, the points of connection between the strip and the members being weakened to allow pivoting of the members on expansion of the collar. Relative rotation between the shank 12 and the collar 24 is prevented by protrusions 36 on the surface 17, and triangular protrusions 25 on the collar may be provided to bite into the wall of a bore when a nut 40 is turned on to a threaded section 13 of the bolt to draw the divergent bearing surface 18 through the collar. The collar can be fabricated as in Fig. 4 (not shown) from a sheet metal blank (M), e.g. of spring steel, the strip 30 being work-hardened to provide extra resilience. The collar may alternatively have a forwardly tapering inner surface (44) as in Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown). Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,285,699.
