Abstract

The thin walled cylindrical tube (4) with a tapered leading edge (4a) slides into the bore of the receiving body (1). This bore has a shoulder (1a) against which a cylindrical plug (2) rests. The outer end of the plug is chamfered (2a) and level with this the cylindrical bore is cut away with a chamfer (3a) leading into an annular groove (3a) about the plug. By entering the tube into the bore with pressure the end is swaged out into the groove and is locked into place. An alternative is to swage the end of the tube into a groove on a shaft passing through a bore. Common use is fixation of a retaining ring for rotating shaft seals.
