Abstract

1,004,473. Closure for screw threaded container. METAL BOX CO. Ltd. Sept. 26, 1962 [Jan. 11, 1962], No. 1585/62. Heading B8T. [Also in Division F2] A closure of synthetic thermoplastic material arranged to be retained in position on a screw-threaded member has a part 2 of circular cross-section provided with ribs 3 of relatively narrow width extending lengthwise of the part 2, the outer ends 7 of the ribs being chamfered to facilitate initial location of the ribbed part of the closure relative to the member, and the crests of the ribs lying on the circumference of a circle the diameter of which lies between the diameters at the base and at the top respectively of the screw threads of the said member, the arrangement being such that on relative rotation of the closure and the member screw threads are formed in the ribs by axial displacement of the material forming the ribs and without the creation of loose waste material. As shown the closure is a cap having a crown 1 with an annular wad 8 to fit into and seal the outer end of a hollow member to which the cap is applied. In an alternative embodiment external ribs are formed on an internal stopper.
