Abstract

1,089,150. Hypodermic appliances. BECTON DICKINSON & CO. Oct. 5, 1966 [Nov. 1, 1965], No. 44524/66. Heading A5R. A hypodermic needle 14 is secured intermediate its ends in a hub 12 having an internally screw-threaded annular sleeve 22 and a neck portion 24 with longitudinal ribs 28, one end of the needle being protected by a sheath (16) (Figure 1, not shown) fitted over the neck portion 24, the other end of the needle being protected by a cap 18 fitted into the sleeve 22. The hub is of a hard plastics material or metal, so that the screw-threads 26 bite into longitudinal ribs 36 on the softer plastics cap 18 and, in use, the cap 18 is removed and the hub is secured by the screw-threads to the ampoule of a syringe. The needle 14 is secured to the hub by an epoxy resin which fills small recesses 20 and the sheath (16) is fluted and is provided with ribs on its inner surface which mate with the ribs 28 to prevent the rotation of the sheath on the hub. The needle may be provided ready sterilized and the assembly of the needle, hub, cap, and sheath, may all be contained in a steel package.
