Abstract
1,099,951. Door opening mechanism on a gun. BOFORS A.B. April 5, 1965 [April 8, 1964], No. 14375/65. Heading F3C. A door 10 pivoted at 9 closes a port 7 in the protective wall 6 of a gun 3 and is adapted to be opened on recoil of the barrel 2 so as to permit a cartridge case guided by guide 8 to be ejected. A spring inside casing 11 acts through members 14, 15, 18, 16, 19 and 17 to bias the door to closed position. When the barrel recoils a member 23 moves so as to engage behind a spring-loaded pawl 27 attached to the member 14. Forward movement of the barrel permits the member 23 under the action of spring 26 to move the member 14 so as to compress the spring inside casing 11 and at the same time open the door 10. The door is retained in open position by a pawl 32 engaging a pallet on the end of a lever 38. The pawl 27 is disengaged from the member 23 in its forward position (when the door is open) by engagement with the edge of aperture 28. A cartridge case ejected along the guide 8 moves the lever 38 downwardly to disengage the pawl 32 from the pallet. However the door does not close due to a pawl 33 engaging a second pallet on the end of lever 38, until the cartridge case has been ejected through port 7 and lever 38 moves upwardly under the action of a spring to disengage pawl 33 from the second pallet.
