Abstract
833,860. Ramming mechanisms. BOFORS A. B. May 28, 1958 [June 20, 1957], No. 17008/58. Class 92 An automatic firearm having a hydropneumatically operated rammer whose lug engages the flange of a cartridge is characterized by a choking device that can be closed or opened between the hydraulic cylinder 3 and a closed air vessel 7 (Fig. 1, not shown), connected to it and has a feeler member that closes the device when no round is in the ramming position. The lug 1 is in the form of a spring catch on the outer end of the piston rod 2 which has guided rollers 8. The hydraulic cylinder piston 4 is pushed back on recoil of the gun and is held in the cocked position by a latch 11 on a pivoted lever 12 which is held down by an arm 14 that can be rotated to free the piston and cause it to ram a round 16. A hinged plate 17 is unsupported when no round is present; permitting a linkage 18-21-22 to rotate a strangler-flap 24 into the outlet orifice 6 of the accumulator 5 so that the piston speed will be reduced and the use of a buffer stop at the end of its travel is unnecessary. The air above the fluid in the accumulator 5 is contained in a rubber bag (Fig. 1. not shown).
