476,005. Air-rifles. PRICE, N. H., and SCHOETTLIN, A. B. B. Feb. 24, 1937, No. 5582. [Class 119] An air - rifle comprises a stock 1, a barrel 4, a breech - block 2 pivoted at 5 on the stock, an air chamber 6 in the breech-block with an outlet passage 10, 9 controlled by a valve 12, a shot magazine 29 adapted to supply a shot to the mouth 11 of the outlet of the breech bolt when this is swung down, means for charging the chamber 6 with compressed air and moving the breech-block down and up again to receive a shot from the magazine and bring the shot into line with the barrel, and a trigger 25 adapted to open the valve to fire the shot. The air is compressed by means of a piston 17 in a cylinder 14 in the breech-block connected by a passage 16 to the chamber 6. The piston-rod 18 is connected to a lever 19 pivoted at its front end at 20 and forming at its rear end a trigger guard. The outward swing of the lever causes a shot to pass from the magazine 29 to the mouth 11 of the breech-block, and the return of the lever causes the compression of the air. To fire the shot, a safety catch 24 pivoted on the trigger 25 is rocked out of engagement with a fixed stop 23, then the trigger is pulled to release a flap 26 to allow the valve 12 to be opened by the compressed air. The valve is closed again near the end of the outward swing of the lever 19 by a finger 28 which is rocked on butting against the front end of a slot 28a in the stock.
