Abstract
202,138. Slade, Sir E. J. W., and Adams, E. S. R. July 12, 1922. Machine guns. - A gas-operated gun, of the kind in which the gas port opens directly from the cartridge chamber, has the gas piston t acting directly on the breech-slide e without intermediate delaying-mechanism. The front of the cylinder j may be closed by an adjustable plug p so that the pressure can be regulated. The piston i is carried by a slide o<1>, which is attached to the breech-slide e by a pivoted catch l, which can be disconnected to allow the breech to be opened by hand. The slide o<1> is connected to the return spring n by a forwardly-projecting rod o. The breech-slide rotates, and retracts the breechbolt by means of a pin and cam-slot connection. The end r of the piston is inclined to deflect downwards the metal disc cut from the cartridge case by the gas pressure.
