Abstract
607,444. Pistols. WESLEY, L. Feb. 4, 1946, No. 3525. [Class 119] A pneumatic pistol for firing slugs or similar projectiles and having a housing k for a compressed gas container l is provided with means for releasing a pre-arranged quantity of gas under pressure from the container into the barrel a behind the slug. The gas container l containing compressed CO 2 is placed in a carrier m with its sealed end 4 in alignment with a centrally perforated piercer 6 projecting from a partition 5 into the forward part of the housing k. On closing the forward end of the housing k by a screwed cap 7, the bulb l is pushed forward so that the piercer 6 penetrates the sealed end 4 allowing gas to pass through the piercer 6 into a gas pressure chamber m<SP>1</SP>. The breech d is opened by partial rotation of a bolt head f. A slug is inserted, the bolt e is pressed home, a ram i on its forward end pushing the slug forward into the barrel; the head f is again rotated, a projection g on the head f co-operating with a cam h in the end closure 8 of the housing k to form a gas-tight seal. When a sear 11 is released by the trigger, a spring-pressed plunger r moves forward to open a valve x and allow gas to escape from the chamber m<SP>1</SP> through an intake j into the barrel behind the slug, to propel it out of the barrel. A safety catch for the trigger may be provided at 9. In a modified construction the carrier m is omitted and the gas bulb is held in position by shaping the interior of the bulb compartment in the housing k. An automatic feed of projectiles to the breech operated by the bolt may be incorporated in the pistol.
