Abstract
950,787. Toy guns. MATTEL Inc. Sept. 28, 1962 [March 2, 1962], No. 36917/62. Heading A6S. [Also in Division B8] A toy gun comprises a cap-firing mechanism actuated by a trigger, a water reservoir, means by which water from the reservoir is held under pressure, and a water-shooting outlet fitted with a valve which is also actuated by the trigger so that pulling the trigger causes a cap to be fired and simultaneously a stream of water to be shot from the gun. The gun 10 has a hollow stock 12 forming a reservoir with an orifice 14 closed by a cap having a sealing valve, and containing a tube 30 leading to a pump cylinder 36 through a non-return valve. The pump cylinder 36 has an outlet valve leading to a chamber 70 surrounding a valve rod 64 and terminating in a nozzle 74 closed by a conical valve member. One arm of a pivoted bell-crank 86 extends through an aperture 84 in the rod 64 whilst the other arm is connected to the trigger 90. The conventional cap firing mechanism comprises a cap-firing plate 94, a pin 96, a groove 98, a pawl 100, and a hammer 108 engaged by the trigger 90. In operation, water is drawn into the tube 36 by means of the pump lever 56 connected to the piston 46, and is then pumped into the chamber 70. On pulling the trigger to fire the cap the bell-crank 86 moves the valve rod 64 to withdraw the conical valve member and water is ejected through the nozzle 74. Whilst the trigger is in the released position, water will continue to be shot forth, providing the water is still under pressure.
