Abstract

1,096,381. Road rollers. STOTHERT & PITT Ltd. Feb. 5, 1965 [Feb. 26, 1964], No. 8085/64. Heading B7H. A twin roll vibratory roller comprises a main frame and two roll frames pivotally attached thereto for movement by a steering gear which comprises a wheel W mounted on a roll frame, a worm 23, a worm-wheel, a rock shaft 25 mounted on the main frame, a two-armed lever 29 and drag links 30. Each roll has a traction drive and a vibrator drive, the four drives being operated by an output shaft 50 of an engine. Each traction drive is transmitted via forward or reverse friction clutches 101, 100, two-speed gearing 53, 53<SP>1</SP>, 54, 54<SP>1</SP>, cardan shaft 59, chain 62 and drive pinion (63) (Fig. 7, not shown). Each vibrator drive is transmitted directly from the output shaft via a clutch 67, cardan shaft 69, belt 172 and pulley (87). The resilient connection of each roll to a corresponding roll frame is similar to that described in Specification 681,299.
