Abstract

1,087,435. Collapsible jib-cranes. ALLUMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. Feb. 1, 1965 [Feb. 3, 1964; Feb. 4, 1964; March 24, 1964; April 2, 1964; June 1, 1964; Nov. 5, 1964], No. 4260/65. Heading B8B. A slewing and luffing jib crane for raising heavy loads is assembled from components none of which weigh more than 10% of the lifting capacity of the crane. A jib 4 is luffed about a pin 5 by a rope 14 and a winch 22. The load is raised by a rope 15 and a winch 20. Stays 2, 3, Fig. 2 (not shown), support a mast 1. If the crane is not mounted on the deck of a ship as shown, an extra stay 26 is provided to locate the stay 3. The outer ends of stays 3, 26 and of the platform 7 may rest on bogies which run on arcuate rails to enable the crane to be rotated bodily. Containers which may be filled with water are provided on the bogies for counterbalancing. Fig. 4 (not shown) illustrates the crane folded down. Stays 32 steady the crane whilst it is raised by a rope and winch 33, 20. The base of the mast 1 is hinged to a plate which is supported on a slewing bearing and provided with locating means which co-operate with the base of the mast. The base plate is locked stationary whilst the crane is erected. Adjustable attachments are provided for the stays to facilitate erection. Pulleys 17, 23, 24, Fig. 1, are all supported by a spindle 48 which is readily removable from a slot in the jib-tip to lighten the jib when dismantled. A plate 50 retains the spindle in the slot.
