y DERRICK.
Application led July 15,
My invention relates to derricks and has particular usefulness as embodied in an 1mv provement on the derrick forming the subf tinguishing features and advantages will clearly appear as the description proceeds.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, it being understood that the drawings are merely illustrative of one example vof the invention.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved derrick embodyingmy present invention showing the auxiliary frame in its inoperative position within the plane'of the main frame;
Figure 2 is a horizontal section on the line 2 2 of Figure 1, the auxiliary frame being swung around to a position substantially at right angles to the position shown in Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a view at the mast,l said view being partly in side elevation and partly in vertical section;
Figure 4 is a horizontal section on the line 4-4, Figure 6;
Figure 5 is a horizontal section on the line 5 5, Figure 3;
Figure 6 is avertical sectional view at the base of the mast; Y y
Figure 7 is a horizontal section 0n the line 7-7 of Figure 3.
In my patented derrick, referred to, there is a main frame and an auxiliary frame each including sills and still legs. In the present example of my invention, the numeral 10 represents the plates secured to the main sill, 11, and 12 upper and lower straps secured to the auxiliary sill 13. The numeral 14 indicates the mast having integral side plates 15 forming the upper terminal having secured thereto in any suitable manner the upper gudgeon pin 16 over which is dis-M posed a-n inverted U-shaped fitting' 115 to which the main stiff leg 17 and the auxiliary sti leg 18 are secured by goosenecks 19, 20.
1,9276.' vserial No. 122,664.-
'Ihe numeral 21 indicates the adjusting chain connection forthe head of the boom 22 and 23 indicates a hoist cable running at the top over a sheave 24 carried by one of the side plates 15.
The numeral 25 indicates my improved gudgeon pin'provided in accordance with the present invention at the base ofthe mast. Saidgudgeon pin 25 is secured to the mast through the medium of the threaded upper end 26 of said gudgeon pin, which receives a nut 27 and angle Washer 28, disposed within the mast 14. The mast 14 is provided with angle side plates 30 to which the boom 22 is pivoted at its lower end as at 32.
The gudgeon pin 25 passes through the straps 12 so as to turn therein, there being washers 33 on said gudgeon pin above and below straps 12. An inverted U-shapedyoke 34 is secured to the plates 10 of the mainr sill 11 and a collar 35 is provided on the mast at the lower end and secured `by keys or pins 36. The described assemblage at the lower end ofthe mast permits the sills to be swung laterally through the desired arc, thereby disposing the sillsin any particular direction in setting up the derrick as a right or left-hand derrick. It is to be observed that the lower gudgeen pin 25 is tubular and vforms a through. passage for the hoist cable 23 which may be run from the lower end of the gudgeon pin `and main sill 11 to any point desired.A The construction described simplifies the provision for leadingY the hoist cable upwardly through the mast and sill fittings by reasonof the gudgeon pin 25 having the throughbore for said cable.
I would state furthermore that while the illustrated example constitutes a practical embodiment of my invention, I do not limitA myself strictly to the exact details herein illustrated, since, manifestly, the same can be considerably varied without departure Vfrom the spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. In a derrick, a mast, means` supporting the lower end of the mast, a sill, a tubular gudgeon pin connected with the mast at the lower end, and means for swiveling the lower end of said tubular gudgeon to the i said sill so. that the sill can swing laterally on said tubular gudgeon.
IUS
2. In a derrick, a mast, means supporting the lower end of the mast, a sill, a tubular gudgeon pin connected with the mast at the lower end, and means for swiveling the lower end of said tubular gudgeon to the said sill so that the sill can swing laterally on said tubular gudgeon, the said tubular gudgeon affording a passageway therethrough to the mast for the running of a hoist cable so that the hoist Cable mayY move 10 longitudinally in the direction of the derrick while said Cable may be'without interference therewith by the sill when moved laterally.
