Byreferring to Fig. 4c, it will be noticed that one end ot the drum F is enlarged indicated at 21 and that j aw clutch teeth 22 are formed interior thereof. Itwill also be noted that a jaw clutchmember 23 is secured on, shaft 12 and that when shaft 12 is moved longitudinally, the clutch member 23 will move into or out of mesh with the cooperating meniber 22. The hoist here shown may, of course, be used wherever desired, but it is particularly adapted for wrecking cranes such as here illustrated. The single gear reduction drive employed may transmit power to either drum and at different ratios so that practically anyload desired may be handled. The mechanism employed is exceedingly simple to operate and as the structure as a whole is substantial and rigid, it may be handled by practically any individual whether mechanically skilled or otherwise. The shifting lever 20 may be secured in either of the positions shown in Fig. 3 by any suitable means. In the present instance, however, an ordinary latch such as indicated at 20" is illustrated, this latch engaging one or another of a pair of recesses formed in the top of the frame as indicated at 20".
lVhile certain features of the present invention are more or less specilicall y described, I wish it understood that various changes may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claims. Similarly, the materials and finishes of the several parts employed may be such as the manufacturer may decide or varying conditions or uses may demand.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1s:
1. A hoist of the character described comprising a frame, a pair of interspaeed shafts journaled crosswise of the frame, a drmn on each shaft and free to rotate thereon, an elongated spur gear pinion secured on one shaft, a spur gear secured on a second shaft, a gear secured to the drum on the first-named shaft and adapted to mesh with a spur gear pinion on the second-named shaft, and means for rotating the first-named shaft to transmit power through the gears to rotate the drum on the first-named shaft.
2. A hoist of the character described comprising a frame, a pair of interspaced shafts journaled crosswise of the frame, a drum on each shaft and free to rotate thereon, an clongated spur gear pinion secured on one shaft, a spur gear secured on a second shaft, a gear secured to the drum on the first-named shaft and adapted to mesh with a spur gear pinion on the second-named shaft, means for rotating the first-named shaft to transmit power through the gears to rotate the drum on the first-named shaft, and means whereby the pinion on the second-named shaft may be moved out of engagement with the gear on the drum so that power may be transmitted from the first-named shaft through the gears to rotate the second-named shaft and the drum thereon.
3. A hoist of the character described comprising a frame, a pair of interspaced shafts journaled crosswise of the frame, a drum on each shaft and free to rotate thereon, an elon- Sill gated spur gear pinion secured on one shaft, a spur gear secured on the second shaft, a gear secured to the drum on the first-named shaft and adapteii. to mesh with a spur gear pinion on the second-named shaft, means for rotating the first-named shaft to transmit power through the gears to rotate the drum on the first-named shaft, means whereby the pinion on the second-named shaft may be moved. out of engagement with the gear on the drum so that power may be transmitted from the firstaiained sh aft through the gears to rotate the second-named shaft and the drum thereon, and a clutch on the secondnamed, shaft cooperating with the drum n'ioiu'ited thereon, said clutch cooperating with the pinion gear on said shaft in such a manner that when the pinion meshes with the gear which is secl'lred to the drum on the first-named shaft, a driving connection between the drum on the second-named shaft and the clutch is broken and when the gear pinion on the seeoi'idma led shaft is moved out ofmesh with the gear on the drum, the clutch will engage the drum on the second named shaft to rotate the same.

A hoist of the character described comprising a frame, a main driving shaft 30m naied crosswise thereof, a second driving shaft journaled crosswise thereof, a main drum freely rotatable on the first shaft, a secondary drum freely journaled on the secwith the drum ond-named shaft, a gear secured to the main drum, a reduction gear drive adapted to transmit power to said gear and drum, a shiftable gear in said drive movable into and out of mesh with said gear, a shiftable clutch cooperating with the drum on the second shaft and movable in unison with said shift- 'able gear, said clutch being out of mesh with the drum when the shiftabie gear is in mesh gear, and being engaged with the drum when the shiftable gear is out of mesh with the gear on the drum.
5. A hoist of the character described comprising a frame, a pair of interspaced shafts journaied crosswise thereon, a free drum on each. shaft, a gear secured to one drum, a gear secured. to the shaft on which the drum is mounted, a pair of gears secured. to the other shaft, a jaw clutch on said. san'ie shaftand cooperating with the drum which is mounted on said shaft, and means whereby the gears and the clutch on the second named shaft are moved longitudinally in unison so as to maintain the clutch and drum disengaged when the gears 011 the second-named shaft mesh with the drum gear and the gear on the first-named shaft and so as to engage the clutch and the drum when the gears on the second-named. shaft are moved out of mesh with the drum gear on the first-named shaft.
