Abstract
The single load boom is pivotted at the bottom of one mast with its top end suspended from that mast by a sling to one side of the top of the mast. A second mast is sited beside the first mast, on the other side of the sling attachment and has a second sling to the top of the load boom to swing the boom to the desired position. The derrick is thus better suited for swinging loads over the side of the ship than a double boomed derrick. A single line passes through a pulley on each of the masts and the boom, to alter the utilisation of the boom, with another line for lifting anchored at the base of the second mast.
