Abstract

1,083,149. Caps for bottles &c. JEYES GROUP Ltd. Aug. 18, 1966 [Sept. 3, 1965], No. 37837/65. Heading B8T. A melt or plastics venting screw cap for a bottle &c. comprises a crown (1), Fig. 1 (not shown), and a depending skirt (2), containing a disc-shaped gasket (6). The inner face of the cap crown (1) is formed with a recess or recesses (5) into which the gasket (6) is deformed if excess pressure develops in the bottle &c. Gases are thus vented to the ambient atmosphere. In the preferred embodiment, two part-ring shaped raised bearing surfaces (4), Fig. 2 (not shown), extend around the inner face of the cap crown (1) and are separated by two diametrically-opposite gaps (5). The two bearing surfaces (4) are spaced slightly radially inwards from the junction between the cap crown (1) and the skirt (2). Alternatively, the inner face of the cap crown (1) may be flat, with a ehannel extending across it.
