Abstract

1,063,740. Yarn winding machines. MAREMONT CORPORATION. Dec. 21, 1964 [Dec. 23, 1963], No. 51815/64. Heading D1J. The package 24, Fig. 1, is carried by an arm 70 pivotally mounted about a lower axis 34, the arrangement being such that the package 24 rests on a freely rotatable bail 30, and as the package grows the increasing weight of the package offsets the decreasing force exerted by the winding spindle 22 on the bail 30 due to the rising inclination of the arm 70. There may be adjustable friction means between the arm 70 and its axis 34 to vary the force exerted by the bail 30 on the package 28. The apparatus includes a housing 44 for gainer gearing preventing "ribbon" winding; the housing 44 supporting yarn traversing means having its axis at 186. Traversing means. A helically grooved cylinder 190, Fig. 4, is mounted in a housing 194 supported cantilever fashion by the gainer housing 44. A cam follower 196 engages with the groove in the cylinder 190 and moves a slide block 204 guided by adjustable slide plates 208, 210 fixed to the housing 194 on opposite sides of an elongated aperture 206 therein. The slide block supports a thread guide assembly 26 and dust sheets are provided to minimize the entry of foreign matter through aperture 206 into the housing 194.
