Abstract

1,080,721. Winding yarns. MAREMONI CORPORATION. Aug. 4, 1964 [July 29 1963], No. 31177/64. Heading D1J. The thread winding machine is rendered compact by arranging the driving motor 30, the spindle 22 for supporting the package core 24, and the means 36 for reciprocating the thread guide assembly 26, in side-by-side relationship, from a housing 40 for a gainer mechanism 98, 104, 106, 122 ensuring that coils on the cross wound package are in close relationship. The housing 40 also contains a belt drive 52 from the motor 30 to the spindle 22. The reciprocating means includes a grooved cylinder in a protective housing 152, the housing having an elongated opening through which a cam follower on the thread guide assembly 26 can extend to engage with said groove. The elongated opening is protected by a dust cover such as a slitted plastic or rubber membrane 184 that is pushed aside by the cam follower as it reciprocates. The cam follower 26 slides on a bar 192 and includes a thread guiding arm 198 that bears against the package being wound and is rockable about the bar 192. The cam follower 26 includes spring means for biassing the arm 198 against the package, the spring means being manually adjustable to vary said biassing force. Preferably the diameter of the grooved cylinder when multiplied by the number of revolutions that it makes for each traverse of the follower 26 is substantially equal to the length of the cylinder.
